The natural rubber crib mattress is our most supportive organic crib mattress. The innersprings and foam of conventional crib mattresses are replaced with natural rubber. Our natural rubber organic crib mattress has a 4 inch inner natural rubber core. Our crib mattresses use Latex Green Rubber, which has been third party tested for purity. The natural rubber is surrounded by an inner layer of wool sheared from certified organic sheep and processed according to organic standards. The organic wool is quilted to the European organic cotton outer layer. The wool in all of our organic crib mattresses is thick enough to make the mattress naturally flame retardant without the use of any added chemicals. Our organic crib mattresses are standard crib size, which is 28” wide and 52” long. All of our organic crib mattresses pass all safety regulations and CPSC guidelines. All of our organic mattresses carry a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty.
We are committed to offering our customers the finest and the purest organic mattresses available. The natural dunlap latex used in our natural rubber crib mattress is called “latex green rubber” and has been 3rd party tested free of any potentially harmful chemical additives or fillers. Please read more about our natural rubber latex.

A note about our Natural Rubber:
The natural rubber used in our organic crib mattresses is manufactured from the sap (also called milk) of the hevea brasiliensis tree (rubber tree). It is grown in plantations in Southwest Asia. The hevea milk is processed close to the plantations which is important for two reasons. First, because raw hevea milk destabilizes when keep too long, manufacturers who transport the milk before processing add chemicals to stabilize it. The natural rubber used in our organic crib mattresses is harvested and processed in the same day. Only air, natural soap and natural vulcanization agents are used in manufacturing the rubber. Second, manufacturing the rubber where is is harvested sustains local economy. Rubber is a renewable resource and rubber tree plantations help combat the green house effect.

A note about our certified organic cotton:
The organic cotton used for our organic crib sheets mattresses is grown and processes organically. Our organic cotton is grown and manufactured in India in accordance with fair trade practices. Indian organic cotton is a long staple cotton which allows it to be tightly woven. Because it is hand picked, our organic cotton does not include cotton seeds which can add flecks and oils to machine picked organic cotton. The organic cotton is also processed in a certified organic processing plant. The organic cotton is thus uncontaminated from synthetic and non-organic fibers. No synthetic finishes are added to the organic cotton fabric.

A note about our Pure Grow Wool:
The Pure Grow Wool used in our organic crib mattresses is raised by U.S. growers who agree to follow responsible and healthful farming practices in order to create a superior and pure wool. The sheep are given good nutrition, fresh air, daylight, non-crowded living conditions and clean and roomy shelters. The wool is sheared from healthy, living sheep, then washed and carded. The wool is completely untreated and unbleached. Wool has many properties that make it an ideal natural fiber for bedding. Wool is mildew resistant, a natural fire retardant, very resilient, insulates without overheating, and is able to wick moisture away from the body.

Allergy Note:
Rubber: Most people who are allergic to synthetic latex do not react to natural rubber. The reason for this is that the protein molecules that cause the allergic reaction to synthetic latex are removed in the natural rubber.
Wool: A true allergy to wool is very uncommon. Most people who experience an allergic reaction when wearing wool, are actually reacting to the chemicals in the wool. The wool used in our mattresses is Pure Grow Wool, and is free of added chemicals. Those people with true allergies to wool, usually react to the wool fibers when they are airborne. Since our wool is covered, this should not be a concern.
If you are concerned about allergies, please order our Allergy Test Kit. It contains samples of the materials used in our organic crib mattresses.

The Importance of a Natural Organic Crib Mattress
Our babies and children spend a considerable amount of time sleeping. It makes sense to have the healthiest possible sleeping surface for your baby and children. Conventional crib mattresses are made of polyurethane foam, polyester and vinyl and treated with chemicals, including fire retardants. There is concern about the off-gassing of these mattress materials. Polyurethane foam, for instance, off-gasses toluene (an industrial solvent and a VOC - volatile organic chemical). A group of fire retardants known as PBDE’s are used in mattresses. These chemicals have been found to accumulate in the human body. A great cause for concern is its affect on children’s learning and behavior.
Synthetic materials are not breathable, like natural materials are. The all natural materials of our mattresses allow for better air flow and help the body maintain a more comfortable temperature.
The organic crib mattresses that we offer at Dandelion Summers are made of 100% natural materials and are thus free of synthetic chemicals. The use of an inner layer of wool makes the mattresses naturally fire resistant without the use of chemicals. All mattresses pass all safety regulations and CPSC guidelines.
